The Saltcellar buildings have overlooked the ancient harbour at Porthleven for close to two hundred years. Constructed in 1816 as a salt warehouse serving the local fishing community, the top two floors of the three-storey structure have now been converted into a series of studios and workshops housing local Cornish artists.
An eclectic mix of artisan craftspeople and artists work within building, drawing inspiration from the Cornish sea and countryside to produce unique handcrafted work.
Artists currently in residence use a range of materials, including felt, wool, fabrics, slate, willow, ceramics, and driftwood salvaged from Cornish beaches.
Work produced within the Saltcellar Workshops is sold nationwide and it is also possible to buy items or arrange commissions directly from the artists working within the building. Please come and visit us, feel free to chat with the artists, view their finished pieces, and watch their work in production.
